A TV screen does not display the page
Why a TV in the center does not open the display page or the leaderboard, and how to replace it with a device that will reliably display it.
The display page and the leaderboards open in a web browser. On a TV, it is the browser built into the TV that displays them, and it is usually the browser that causes the problem.
The symptom
- The TV shows a connection error, for example "server not found", while the same link opens on a computer or a phone.
- The page stays white, or is displayed very small in a corner of the screen.
- The TV shows one of the Omnisim messages listed below.
Possible causes
| Cause | Explanation |
|---|---|
| The TV's browser does not recognize the site's security certificate. | TVs whose software is no longer updated do not know recent certificate authorities. The connection is refused before the page is even displayed, which the TV presents as "server not found". |
| The TV's browser is too old. | It does not understand part of the page's code: the page stays white or displays badly. TVs more than a few years old are affected. |
| The link is no longer valid. | It was regenerated in NEXUS, or it was copied incorrectly. |
| Display is not available for this center. | The center is archived, or your subscription is no longer active. |
Omnisim's messages
| Message on screen | Cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Invalid or expired token" | The display link was regenerated, or it is incomplete. | Copy the link again from Display › Display URLs per center with Copy. |
| "No content configured" | The center's playlist is empty. | Add items in Display › Playlist. |
| "Unable to load content" | Exchange with Omnisim interrupted. | Reload the page. If it persists, check the TV's internet connection. |
| "Display currently unavailable" | The center is archived, or your subscription is no longer active. | Unarchive the center, or check your subscription in Billing. |
| "Leaderboard currently unavailable" | Same cause, for the leaderboard. | Same solution. |
Check, in order
Open the same link on a computer
In Display › Display URLs per center, click Open. If the page displays correctly on the computer, the link and your account are fine: the problem comes from the TV.
Update the TV
In the TV's settings, install the latest software update, then open the link again. An update often brings a more recent browser and certificates.
Plug in a dedicated device
If the TV no longer receives updates, look no further: plug into its HDMI input a streaming stick or a mini PC with an up-to-date browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox), and open the link on it in full screen. The TV then only serves as a screen, and its browser no longer comes into play.
Result
The TV shows the playlist or the leaderboard in full screen, and the page moves by itself from one item to the next.
Good to know
- A dedicated device solves both problems at once. The certificate and the outdated browser both come from the TV: an up-to-date browser is affected by neither.
- Regenerating a link cuts off all the TVs that use it. After Regenerate, copy the new link again to each screen in the center.
- A TV keeps the center screen layout. The leaderboards only switch to the phone layout on a small touch screen, not based on the screen width alone.
When to contact support
Contact support if the page does not display on an up-to-date computer either, or if it does not display on a dedicated device with a recent browser. Give the link used, the model of the device and what the screen shows.
