Configure the navigation controls
Let players navigate IGNITION with the wheel buttons, the paddles or the pedals, and show them which control does what.
A player sitting at the wheel has no mouse or keyboard at hand. IGNITION lets them choose their car, their track and their options with six controls: Up, Down, Left, Right, Confirm and Back. You assign them once and for all to wheel buttons, paddles, pedals or the D-pad, and a bar displayed at the bottom of the screen reminds the player which control does what.
Assign the controls
On the unlocked simulator, tap ⚙ at the top left, then open the Controls tab.
In DEVICE, choose your wheel in Active device. If it does not appear, click Refresh.
In COMMANDS, click Assign next to an action, then press the control you want within 8 seconds. A pedal must be pressed beyond 60% of its travel.
All connected devices are listened to: pedals separate from the wheel work.
Click the assigned row to set how it is displayed:
- COMMAND TYPE: Button, Paddle, Pedal or D-pad. A button and a paddle are indistinguishable to the wheel: it is up to you to say which one to show the player.
- POSITION: click the diagram of the wheel or pedals, where the control is located.
- BUTTON COLOR: for a button, the color of its dot on the wheel. Paddles, pedals and D-pad take your center's color.
The DRIVER PREVIEW shows exactly the bar the player will see.
Repeat for the six actions, then click Save.

The controls bar is shown at the bottom of IGNITION's selection screens. It is hidden during the race, on the screensaver and in the settings.
Show or hide the bar
The bar is turned on from NEXUS: Settings › IGNITION, On-screen overlays block, Commands overlay. The assignments, however, stay specific to each simulator: NEXUS never overwrites them.
Good to know
- The keyboard always works in addition to the assigned controls: arrows or Z/Q/S/D, Enter or Space to confirm, Backspace or Esc to go back.
- A pedal triggers at 70% of its travel and re-arms below 30%, so that a player who leaves their foot on it does not confirm over and over.
- In the player's bar, the Back action is shown as Cancel.
- The same button assigned to two actions triggers both of them: IGNITION warns you with a ⚠ on the row.
Troubleshooting
| Message | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| "Status: select a device first." | No wheel chosen. | Choose it in Active device. |
| "Status: no control detected — assignment canceled." | Nothing was pressed within 8 seconds, or the pedal did not go past 60%. | Click Assign again and press firmly. |
| "Control device not detected" on screen | The wheel or pedals are unplugged or switched off. | Plug them back in: navigation resumes by itself as soon as they are detected. Esc hides the message. |
| The bar does not appear | Commands overlay is turned off in NEXUS, or no action is assigned. | Turn it on in Settings › IGNITION. |
