The player's journey at the simulator

What the player sees, from the screensaver to the results, and the settings that add or remove each screen.

Between scanning the QR code and starting on track, the player goes through about ten screens. This page describes them in order, says which ones you can add or remove from NEXUS, and helps you answer a player who is stuck.

The settings mentioned are in NEXUS, Settings › Simulation, Left to the driver block. The experiences and modes, however, are ticked on each simulator: ⚙ › General, EXPERIENCE and MODES blocks.

The journey, step by step

Screensaver: the scan

The locked simulator shows your screensaver. If Booking QR code is on (Settings › IGNITION), a QR code invites passers-by to book online.

The player scans their ticket: the simulator unlocks. If the ticket is refused, a red message is shown for 5 seconds: see Understand a QR code rejection at the simulator.

Language choice

The simulator uses the language of the booking when the ticket carries one. Otherwise, it asks the player to choose their language, on three conditions:

  • Language choice on unlock is on (Settings › IGNITION);
  • your center offers several languages (Settings › Center › Supported languages);
  • the ticket carries no language (QR code issued at the front desk, for example).

In all other cases, the simulator keeps the center's default language.

Username

A ticket bought online carries the customer's name: the simulator uses it and moves straight on to the next step. A ticket without a name (issued at the front desk, unlock by command QR code) opens the DRIVER screen, where the player types their username on the virtual keyboard.

The username has 3 to 16 characters: letters, digits, _ and -. Accents and spaces are removed. Their laps appear in the leaderboards under this username.

If the username already belongs to another driver, the simulator shows THAT USERNAME IS ALREADY TAKEN and asks for the email address linked to this username, or suggests other usernames. PICK ONE FOR ME draws a free one at random.

Experience and mode

Experience offers Circuit, Rally and Drift. The screen is skipped when only one experience is playable.

Mode offers Hotlap, Practice, Race and Multiplayer. A card only appears if the mode is ticked on the simulator and at least one active car and track suit it. See Start a multiplayer race.

Level

The player chooses Novice, Intermediate or Expert. A panel details the driving aids of the selected level. You set each level in Settings › Simulation › Difficulty; in Race, the level also sets the opponents, their level and the number of laps.

Car and livery

Only the cars that have at least one playable track in this mode are shown. When Livery choice is on, selecting a car opens its liveries; the back button closes this choice. When off, the simulator assigns a random livery.

Track, weather and time of day

The player chooses a track compatible with their car. Then come, if they are on, the weather and time-of-day screens.

  • Without Weather choice, the race takes place with the simulator's default weather (the star ☆ on the Weather page), or the one in the 4_mid_clear folder if there is none. See Choose the weather offered.
  • Without Race time-of-day choice, the race takes place at the Default race time (12 PM if you have not changed anything). When on, the player chooses from your Available times (4 at most).

Summary and start

The summary shows one card per choice: tapping one goes back to the corresponding screen. Start the race starts Assetto Corsa. The summary stays on screen during loading, and no more choices are possible.

During the race

The session time only starts when the car is on track: loading is not deducted. Depending on your settings (Settings › Simulation › In-race apps), the player sees the Session timer and the Lap progress on track.

The session stops:

  • when the ticket's time is up;
  • on a rally stage, as soon as the car crosses the finish line;
  • or when the player quits Assetto Corsa.

The time actually driven is deducted from the ticket. See How a QR code's credit is used.

Results

The SESSION RESULTS screen lists each lap, with its three sectors, its time and its validity, then the Best valid lap. The screen stays on for 15 seconds (Back in), then the simulator goes back to the screensaver, locked. For another session, the player scans their ticket again. In free access, the simulator goes back to the DRIVER screen instead of locking.

Result

The session appears in NEXUS, on the Sessions page, and its laps in Laps and the leaderboards, under the player's name.

Good to know

  • A banner follows the player through the menus. If Driver overlay is on (Settings › IGNITION), it shows their name and their Time remaining, with their remaining Sessions for a booklet and their Today's session for a pass.
  • Re-scanning the ticket before the start locks the simulator without using anything. A new scan opens it again.
  • No ticket is read during the race or on the results screen.
  • The back button goes back to the previous screen; on the DRIVER screen, there is nothing behind.
  • Auto-launch session (Settings › Simulation) shows a countdown as soon as the simulator is unlocked. At zero, the simulator starts a Hotlap on its own at Novice level, with a car and a track drawn at random if the player has not chosen them yet, and the simulator's default weather. The delay is set in Delay before launch (60 seconds by default).
  • A simulator on standby turns back on as soon as a ticket unlocks it: the player does not wait in front of a black screen.
  • The ⚙ button is visible to the player as soon as the simulator is unlocked. Protect the settings with a PIN code: see Install IGNITION.

Team shortcut: Alt + Del

You need a keyboard plugged into the simulator. Normally, Alt + Del locks the simulator if it is open, or unlocks it if it is locked, with no ticket and no code. In free access, the shortcut resets the simulator and asks for the username again: it is the way out if the screen stays frozen. Keep this shortcut for the team: a player with a keyboard could use it.
